Pets Win Prizes

Greetings for a Thursday! Today's pic is something special. It is the wonderful Kevin Bacon performing to Footloose.

Why, you may ask? Well, it was the answer to today's Going For A Song - and a very clever clue if I do say so myself! Hooded South Park character signs in to multiple computers but is coming unscrewed at the ankle!

Today, we dealt with talented pets. We heard about cats that thought they were dogs, dogs that pulled babies away from the fire, and even a divebombing budgie!

We also dealt with dating disasters - with a new survey out showing the top 10 dating faux pas. Needless to say, we were astounded by the bad manners of some people! One lad asked a girl to the cinema, then turned up with another girl and said "fancy it then?"

We also found out about the boy who took on the tumble dryer and lost. And is it time that this woman allowed her son to live his life?!!

Today's Big Hard One:-
I'm as fast as an eagle, as slow as a slug.
As tall as a tree, and as small as a bug.
Sometimes in front, sometimes behind,
Never on top, and always aligned!
Ans:
A shadow

More of the same tomorrow from 6.50am!

Oooh, Betty

The heading today is the immortal words of Frank Spencer - more about him later.

BUT FIRST, todays picture. Kylie and Jason on a t-shirt. Who would wear something like this? Answer; a 7 year old Niall Power! Not only that, but he wore it while competing in a disco dancing competition in Majorca! Want more? He WON! Yes folks, Niall Power is a disco dancing Champion. I bet they gave him first prize out of sympathy.

Back to the heading... We found out this morning that there's a whole generation of Beat Breakfast listeners who don't know who Frank Spencer is! Click on this here link to see one of the greatest comedy characters of all time! And fair play to our friend Paul who came on air and did his impression. He's the ONLY person I've heard who can get away with it.

Also on this morning's show, we found out that if Mary were to audition for Britain's Got Talent, then she would showcase her library of accents. However, we're remaining sceptical as the only thing she said when asked for an example, was "alright" a la Harry Molloy from Fair City.
My talent would be to show off my amzing finger tricks. Maybe we'll share that with you at a later date!

This morning, my Big Hard One was anything but! Here you go anyway.
"I have T at my start. I have T at my end. I have T in my middle and it comes through my bend."
ANS: Teapot. Duh. Apologies. Will do better tomorrow!

And Going Fir A Song... "Daft lightheaded brat."
ANS: Bonkers by Dizzee Rascal

Right, I'm off to get ready for the Champions League final!

Talk t'yall tomorrow

Grrr... or Girl?

That was the question on this morning's show. We asked what are the things that men do that are, shall we say, less than manly.
This came up in the office because I wast told that having a scented candle would be kinda girlie. I disagreed. So did Mary!
I mean, have a look at this pic. What's not manly about that? Smells nice and it's rosemantic. Defo Grrr.
Anyhoo...guys who take too long to get ready and/or own a GHD were on the Girl list.

We read a new list of the best British songs of all time, where Oasis came 1st, 2nd AND 3rd and we said "we can do better than that" so we asked you what you thought the best Irish song of all time is. Mary got very excited and compiled a list. Click on any to see/hear them!
Whiskey in the Jar - Thin Lizzy
Summer in Dublin - Bagatelle
Blowers Daughter - Damien Rice
Revalate - The Frames
Pride -U2
Rainy night in Soho- The Pogues
Rare auld times - The Dubliners
Mexico -Mundy
Fields of Athenry -Paddy Reilly
Nancy Spain - Christy Moore

Niall thought it should be Aon Focail Eile by Richie Kavanagh. Stay Wut Her Johnny!

I thought this morning's Hard One would catch people out..."What seemingly goes up must come down. An eternal cycle of the crown. The ruler of Versailles would surely attest it benefits you and me and all the rest. What am I?"
ANS: The Sun

Going For a Song... "Delete what belongs to you. A small amount of deference."
ANS: Erasure - A Little Respect What the HECK is he wearing???!!! Now that really IS Grrr... or Girl!

They Look Like Moving Cabbage!

VB anseo.

Today's heading is a quote form Mary on this morning's show. What was she talking about? Frogs! Frogs remind mary of moving cabbage. Apparently.
Why were we talking about frogs? Well, Niall asked if there was anything that you don't like that everyone else does. For example...Niall has a blanket ban on the cinema and Mary doesn't think Brad Pitt is hot. Weird. There are too many things that I don't like to even start...

Apart from that, we found out that if you're going to claim disability benefit, it's probably not a good idea to go on Britain's Got Talent and breakdance. That's what Fred Bowers did. Hemay have impressed us all with his moves but the 73 year old hase been found out.

Also...a lesson learned by one guy in the States is be careful if you're stupid enough to carry a pistol in your pocket. He ended up with more than a hole in his pants. BANG BANG!

We had to pretty much give you the answer to this morning's Big Hard One.
"Squeeze it and it cries tears as red as its skin. Yet its heart is made of stone."
ANS: Cherry!

Going For A Song..."Bottle of beer. Nocturnal beat"
ANS: Corona - Rhythm of the Night.

Don't forget we have a pair of VIP tickets to give away for the Take That gig at Croke Park on June 13th. The week's highest scorer on Beat the Bomb will pocket the tickets.

And if you want to hear the best bits of the show, then check out the Beat Breakfast Podcast.

Talk to you tomorrow @ 6.50!

The Leigh in a Bog Blog (Thanks Liam!)

Greetings.

More about the pic in a mo...

So, what have we learned today? 1...You gotsta be careful doing anything in your car because someone WILL see. We asked listeners what's the craziest they've seen going on behind the wheel and we got all manner of answers from women giving themselves a facial to solo-hurling and the classy boy who picks his nose and leaves the results on the sun visor. Nice.

2...Did you know Leigh Doyle had to be rescued at a Robbie Williams concert once by the civil defence when he fell down a dike! I dont think anymore is needed, really. When he told the story on this morning's Lying King, all I could picture was something the like the picture up there!
Check out the Beat Breakfast podcast tomorrow and you might just hear the story in full.

This morning's Hard One went as follows...What flies when it'sborn, lies when it's alive and runs when it's dead?
ANS: Snowflake!

and Going For A Song...Sad as everyone gets up.
ANS: Blue 'All Rise'

Tomorrow will be the usual Fun Friday mix of TFI (are you doing anything interesting this weekend?), Cheese or No Cheese (who will you give your No.1 vote to? Leigh or Mary?) and Get It Off Your Chest ( What's been bugging you this week?)

So join us at 6.50 for Friday's Beat Breakfast!

Meeting adjourned. Be careful out there!
