New Video!!

3 Go Off On An Adventure.... The Video!

The bonniest dog in the South East?!

Meet Dougal... we mentioned him on this morning's show. He lives with Orla, and we reckon he may be the bonniest dog in the South East!

There were many other pet stories on today's show, but most of them terribly sad. We were asking about the last time you cried. This follows the news that women cry for 16 months of their lives, and women aged in their late 20s cry for over 2 hours in a week! You can read more about the survey here.

I spoke about watching Harry and the Hendersons recently... the bit where he punches poor Harry and tells him that he doesn't like him anymore. I'm welling up even writing this. Vinny talked about some boxing kanagaroo movie, and Mary.... well, where do we start? A Damien Rice song prompted her most recent outburst.

We also had news that will come as no surprise to lovers of tea.... it really does help in a time of crisis. According to the report, people are more likely to put the kettle on than contact their family when feeling stressed!

Other stuff we spoke about.....
Vinny's Big Hard One
Clue:
Squeeze it, and it cries tears as red as it's skin. Yet it's heart is made of stone. What is it?
Ans: A cherry

A dark day in the Beat Breakfast office....

Today, we lost a good friend. I have had the same sleeve/folder for the past five years, since my Beat Talk days. I use it to keep all the stuff we'll be talking about on the show in. What's most interesting is the amazing designs and doodles I've drawn on it over the years.

However, after hanging on by a thread for the last few months, today it split and is now dead. Hence my sad face. It's kinda like the aftermath of Michael Jackson's death.... there is lots of talk in the office of the best way to remember it. Framing is a possible option. I'll keep you posted on the details of the memorial service once we get confirmation from Lionel Richie, Usher and Mariah Carey.

So, today was all about the Leaving Cert results as we were flooded with hundreds of texts from nervous young people who hadn't slept last night! We also talked about your memories of collecting results, and we heard about some pretty evil headmasters and teachers who poured scorn on students who didn't do well. Anyhow, well done to everyone who got results today - and don't go too crazy tonight!

This morning on the show, I spoke with charity fundraiser Frankie McEvoy and Pamela Horgan, who is the mother of 2 year old Sam from Mooncoin in Kilkenny. Sam suffers from Severe Development Delay, aswell as seizures, epilepsy and he is blind. The Baby Sam Appeal was set up to raise money to send Sam to China for stem cell treatment, but it's costly and they need your help with some fundraisers coming up. Check out the website and help out if you can.

Sexy hands

So, it seems 50% of women can't stand their feet! This was according to a new survey which we received today - and it prompted the question "is there any part of the body that women actually like?" Mary informed us that she likes her hands, so I thought it only fitting to use a picture of Mary's hands as picture of the day. Sexy, eh?! You should see her type with those fingers.

We talked mostly today about long distance love and holiday flings. The general feeling was that couples who see each other day, and whinge about the little things don't realise how lucky they are. We had many texts from people who haven't seen their significant other in months. Anyhow, Maybefriends.com had some interesting tips for long distance lovers, including....

  • Cook a meal and eat together! - Take it in turns to find a recipe for a meal you would both enjoy. Dress in the clothes and create the ambience that would exist if you were both dining together and use a webcam/mobile to chat while you chop onions together, savor your food and do the washing up!
  • Watch TV together - If you both have access to the same TV networks, take turns to pick the shows you would like to sit down to watch together. During the show you can ring or send texts to share the laughs and thrills of the programme or have a moan that you have to watch another Champions League football match while Desperate Housewives is on the other channel – it’s all part of the fun!
  • Attend an event on their behalf - If there’s an event on near you that your other half would love to attend, try and go along to it and be their eyes and ears. This might include a concert, a comedy, a football match etc. Fill your partner in on every last detail and they will be impressed that you took the time and effort to show an interest in the things they love.

3 Go Off On An Adventure!

So... our big announcement today!

Beat 102-103 is bringing the Famous Five ‘back to life’ and it’s an adventure you’ll want to be a part of this summer!

For most people over the age of 20, the Enid Blyton books and TV series were a ‘must’ as a child. Now Beat 102-103 has decided to recreate the adventure of those famous books as part of the Beat Breakfast team’s annual tour around the five counties.

According to Beat 102-103 Programme Controller Gabrielle Cummins ‘I am sure some of our younger audience is not as familiar with the Famous Five series as those of us at the other end of our target market so we thought the adventures of the Famous Five deserve renewed recognition. Hence the reasoning behind the Beat Breakfast themed tour, THREE GO ON AN ADVENTURE’, added the Tipperary native.

From next week August 17th, the Beat Breakfast presenters Niall Power (Waterford), Vincent Bradley (Wexford) and Mary O’Neill (Kilkenny) will be on a week long adventure across the South East. The station’s popular 3 Beat Fleet will be in tow too. There’s even a mascot – Timmy the Dog!

To further celebrate the magic of The Famous Five, the signature theme tune has been re-worked with new specially devised, tongue in cheek Beat Breakfast lyrics and a specially created send-up promotional video, based on the Famous Five TV series. This will be available free to watch next week on http://www.beat102103.com/

The Famous Five was based around a group of children who had the sort of adventures most kids only dream about; in a world where ginger beer and ham rolls were a staple diet.

Each day of the Beat Breakfast tour, the team will have their own little adventure because they will have to complete mysterious daily challenges in each county….. but the catch is - the challenges must be completed in order for the daily prizes to go to Beat 102-103 listeners.

The Beat Breakfast THREE GO ON AN ADVENTURE tour will begin their daily adventures by broadcasting live each day from the following locations:

  • Monday August 17th – The Esso Station, Cahir, County Tipperary.
  • Tuesday August 18th – Frasers Oil, Tullow, County Carlow.
  • Wednesday August 19th – Freshgo Store – Kilkenny city.
  • Thursday August 20th – Mother Hubbard’s, Barntown, County Wexford.
  • Friday August 21st – Spar Centre, Cork Road, Waterford city.

Come along, tune in, or go online http://www.beat102103.com/ and be a part of the adventure of the summer!

Hear the full song here.

And if you were hoping to sing along, here are the lyrics to our song!

Wherever there’s adventure to be found
Vinny, Niall & Mary, will always be around

Whenever there’s some craic to be had
Beat Breakfast will be there
It always gets a bit mad

We are the beat Breakfast Crew
Mary Vinny Niall and Timmy the Dog
We are the Beat Breakfast Crew
We’re coming right to you
One county each day
Day after day next week!

We also learned about the Miss Waterford competition on this morning's show. Grainne the vixen

As promised, today's pic of the day is of Grainne the vixen. When you say "Grainne the vixen" most people think of Grainne Seoige, but no, this is cute Grainne and her owner, Patsy Gibbons - who is described as Thomastown's Dr. Doolittle! It's a very cute story. You can read more about it in this week's Kilkenny People, or in today's Indo here.

The thing that surprised me most this morning is that Vinny and Mary never wake up and turn the pillow over to the cold side! Freaks. I mentioned it this morning because our theme was "there's nothing nicer than.....". Some of the other suggestions were hot buttery toast, finding money in clothes, and getting into a bed with clean sheets. Interestingly, I was also informed about this product.

We also asked about the movie you would like a walk-on part in. This follows the news that a whole load of eejits queued for hours to get a part in Sex and the City 2. I wanted to be in Little Shop of Horrors, Vinny chose Debbie Does Dallas, and Mary chose the Godfather because of all of the feasting going on.

Some other stuff from today's show....
  • Irish women are the best in the world at this
  • How much do you care about the environment?
  • When was the last time that you did something adventurous?
Vinny's Big Hard One
Clue:
I weaken all men for hours each day,
I show you strange visions while you are away,
I take you by night, by day take you back,
None suffer to have me, but do from my lack.
What am I?
Ans: Sleep!

Clue:
Electrical flashes from Arab country with arable land growing fights.

Last chance to win the trip to Liverpool tomorrow, plus TFI Friday, Get It Off Your Chest, and Cheese or No Cheese!
Talk to you at ten to seven.

The South East's sexiest man?

Well...what do you think? Would Richie Kavanagh get your vote for the sexiest man in the South East?

We mentioned this today because of a survey in the papers of Limerick's sexiest men - including Willie O'Dea! So, we tried to compile a list of the sexiest South East men - and Richie got votes!

Others who did well were Padraig Delaney, Gordon d'Arcy, Dan Shanahan, Kevin Doyle, Keith Barry, John O'Shea, Alan Quinlan, Dennis Leamy and Brendan Bowyer!

We also had a chat about foreign students, and the influx into the South East during the summer months. There was stories of Spanish women with hairy legs, summer romances and we talked about this poor furniture shop owner in England!

Well done to David from Kilkenny who is the latest listener thru to the draw on Friday for the trip to Anfield in two weeks to see Liverpool vs Stoke. Also congrats to Charlotte who wins a voucher for Club Vitae. She didn't get a very high score on Beat the Bomb, but she had just finished a night shift at South Tipp General Hospital, so we will make some allowances!

Minger or Stunner?

Hello there, and I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. We had great reports this morning about Metallica, Fatboy Slim, and of course, Spraoi.

Firstly... a rant. I'm not happy with the Kerry farmers who decided to dye their rams and geese green and yellow for the big game against Dublin at the weekend. I think they should be done for cruelty.

However, with the big Waterford vs KK game this coming weekend, I thought it would be nice to have some sheep in the Waterford colours to spur the lads on.

A contentious issue on today's show... all based on a most-likely-made-up problem in the Star. If your other half were to cheat on you, would it be worse if they cheated with a minger, or with an absolute stunner? Most people thought it would be worse if they cheated with a minger. All agreed that it's good to have someone to focus your anger on when this happens.

We also dealt with your Fawlty Towers stories - nasty places you've stayed with some dodgy customer service practices. This all stemmed from this story. Needless to say, we heard stories of unbelievable dirt, awful breakfasts - and myself and Vinny related the story of our stay in a strange B&B in Offaly - where we were locked in with the strange owners.

Other stuff we chatted about....
  • Are you an ogler?
  • How would you feel if you saw your dad on a billboard in his underpants?
  • A woman scorned and all that....
  • Irish guys are seventh most attractive in the world - all because of the housework
